Home Sweet Home

Anthropologie | Visual Display Coordinator

November & December 2015

Home Sweet Home. Nothing is reminiscent and brings the feeling of nostalgia of the holiday season more so than gingerbread!  Inspired by the local architecture of each Anthropologie’s store location, this window display adds whimsicality in the form of quaint gingerbread house architecture. In this gingerbread village, several hotels located on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach along with the Freedom Tower of Downtown Miami, Florida are referenced, allowing the local customer to engage in the architecture in a more intimate and familiar way.

The construction of this gingerbread village pairs together simple and basic materials along with baking essentials. The underlying base of each of the houses is constructed of a wood base wrapped in cardboard. After several texture and paint treatments to add dimension to the houses, baking supplies such as flour, baking powder, and cinnamon were used to create a more realistic gingerbread façade. Complete with a hand-built and hand-painted art walls and a hand-constructed brick bridge (Venetian Causeway), the composition of the gingerbread village is brought to life. Final details were added with frosting (spackling paste), cookie wreaths and swags (created from salt dough), and street lamps to add a holiday touch!
